Story of Bro. Arnold 3
C) Experience in Mongolia
I arrived at Mongolia on 21st Oct, 2008 and was picked up by my rector, Fr. Paul Leung to Savio Children’s Home in Amgalang on the following day. In this community, we have 26 children who have different backgrounds. They are either out of contact with their parents or came from the street and very poor families.
I didn’t feel very easy to due with them at the beginning of my missionary life. I got a message from Exodus which said, “ Remove the sandals from your feets, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Take off my shoes as the place we are standing on is holy. Sometimes, we may easily forget that God has already here before we arrived. Being a missionary, I understand that I should enter deeply to people’s culture, tradition as well as the practice of life. God create us and we are just an instrument of Him. Our works should glorify God and show His love to people. We should try our best and He will do the rest. Under this circumstance, I aware that it is not easy for a person who is too proud of himself, emotional, target oriented or unconscious. Therefore, I always pray for my intention to be here is to fulfill God’s will instead of mine. I try my best to understand the culture and also the life style of Mongolian. Therefore, I keep on learning their language as it is one of the best ways to communicate with them directly. Recently, I had an experience to know what is Sakhansar (the New Year of Mongolia) and had a chance to visit the country side. It gave me a clear picture about Mongolian. They are very friendly, respective, simple and with a strong sense of family spirit.
In Savio Children’s Home, I feel that life is beautiful as I can see children turn their hearts and mind better and better daily. I am sure they can become as good as St. Savio even they look like Maggone in this moment. ( They represents the good boy and the bad one in the youth centre of Don Bosco)
